With the Fall 2011 issue of the Park Slope Civic Council’s Civic News, we tried something different for the newsletter. Rather than presenting local news and events, we used the issue to “reintroduce” the Civic Council to the community. Each article covered in depth a different aspect of the organization: from livable streets, expansion of our historic district, and monitoring of the Atlantic Yards project to scholarships and house tours.
Working with all committee heads and others involved in these activities, I edited together a thorough look at the Civic Council and its key role in the neighborhood. I also played with the newsletter’s design to make it look like a special issue: a more minimal cover than previous issues, tweaks in typefaces and layouts, and more of my photos.
The issue succeeded in drawing more attention to the Civic Council as “An Advocate for Our Community.”
