Civic News: Winter and Spring 2012

The Winter and Spring 2012 issues of Civic News furthered the Park Slope Civic Council’s goal of reaching more local residents and increasing awareness of what’s happening in their community.

Slow zones — neighborhood areas where the cars are limited to 20 mph — was the Winter issue’s focus, following a well-attended meeting on the topic. I coordinated coverage of the event for the issue, and wrote one piece about the subject. I also worked with colleagues on other articles, such as local business and participatory budgeting.

The Spring issue was a great one, as I worked to highlight the diversity of the Civic Council’s activities. Articles covered the expansion of the local historic district, the Civic Sweep, the growth of Fourth Avenue, and more, all edited and photographed by me.

With these issues, I updated the publication’s design, incorporating several successful layout elements from the special Fall issue.
