I began my affiliation with the New York League League of Conservation Voters designing its main publication, EcoPolitics. After putting together several issues with its existing layout, I proposed a redesign that would modernize the quarterly and help the organization to better reach its audience. The staff agreed to the project.
The new EcoPolitics layout improved readability and livened up each page. Among the new elements: bolder images, including a nearly full-page cover photo (often my own) and more illustrations; better use of color where available; icons for various sections of the publication to identify individual NYLCV chapters and programs; and a more obvious hierarchy for headlines and articles. The final design is one of the stronger I have seen among similar periodicals.
In addition to designing and photographing for EcoPolitics for several years, I wrote (on such topics as Manhattan’s High Line and a local harbor school) and helped to when needed.
