‘Future of Fourth Avenue’ Forum

The unofficial western border of Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood, Fourth Avenue had been seen for years as a highway through the borough and a semi-industrial neighborhood — until a city zoning change brought new construction and an influx of residents. The Park Slope Civic Council devoted its 2010 community forum to “The Future of Fourth Avenue,” with the goals of reaching these new neighbors and developing plans for a more livable avenue.

As part of my first large-scale design project with the group, I walked the length of the avenue in the community, photographing areas of concern while developing a clear message for the forum. These elements shaped the bilingual posters, postcards, and programs for the event.

The forum was a success: The materials attracted many new faces to the event from in and around Fourth Avenue, and a number of the attendees stayed on to form the very active Forth on Fourth Avenue Committee.
