NYLCV Environmental Report Card

The New York League of Conservation Voters wanted a standout design for their first full local “report card,” a lengthy document tracking New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s environmental record. This had to include impressive photography for each subject as well as typography choices that surpassed those made in similar documents from other advocacy groups.

The photographic part of the assignment allowed me to travel to several locations for new images — for example, Downtown Brooklyn for traffic, upstate New York for water quality — that added to already existing photos. (See my portfolio of photos for NYLCV projects here.) Type tests led me to employ fonts that I’ve liked but rarely used; I merged those choices with type treatments used in the League’s scorecards to maintain a consistent feel among publications.

The final design packed a great deal of information into a relatively short page count, but it was all easily accessible to the report card’s readers.
