Being a photographer is fun and stimulating, but doing it for a purpose beyond yourself is even better. Used properly in editorial and design work, these images can educate, convince, inspire, and delight — goals for all of my creative work.
I’ve been able to use my own photos often both in print and online for various organizations. They’ve helped to illustrate the need to improve Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza and better monitor the Atlantic Yards development, helped show Park Slope in the “distant” past of 1973 (through photo research with a Brooklyn newspaper) and present day (on the same block and with the same setup), and reveal community support for a new bike lane and some old landmarks. I look forward to these assignments as both new challenge as a photographer and unique opportunities to reach people where they live.
