This project, for the New York League of Conservation Voters’ annual waterfront-focused fundraiser, turned out to be one of my favorites. After I came up with the basic concept highlighting various city shoreline parks in the invitation, I travelled to several sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens to take photos exclusively for this project.

In designing the invitation — and with only two colors available — I chose a very minimal look for all materials that was based on aerial views of a city waterfront and its piers. The concept allowed us to include a lot of information about the event in a small space without much clutter.

Perhaps just as important, the design succeeded whether recipients got the “joke” (the waterfront reference) or not.
